Bhai Phota

Bhai Phota is a traditional festival celebrated in all over in West Bengal in every home with special dishes. It is celebrated on the second day of Kali Puja. In this festival every sister prays for her brother's for long life and every brothers promises their sister's to protect them from evils.
In Hindu mythology, Yamuna, is the sister of Yama Raj (God of Death) prays for her brother's welfare and applies "Phota" on his forehead with chanting a Sanskrit Mantra

Bhai Phota Recipes

There are large varietes of food items. Some sample items are as follows.

Breakfast: Luchi, Chholar Dal, Dum Alu, Rasogolla, Sandesh, Misti Doi.

Lunch: Ghee Bhat, Macher Matha Diye Moong Dal, Begun Vaja, Chingri Maachher Malaikari, Doi Ilish, Pineapple Chutney, Misti Pan.

Dinner: Onion Pakoda, Hydrabadi Biriyani, Indian Chicken Curry, Kulfi Ice Cream.
