Mocha Chingri Ghanto


Banana blossom - 1 (leaves removed and flowers de-steamed and chopped)
Potato - 1 medium size cut into cubes
Shrimp - 1 small
For Flavoring
Cloves - 4
Cardamom - 2-3 pods
Cinnamon - 1/2 inch piece
Coriander powder - 2 tbsp
Red pepper powder - 1 tbsp
Salt - 1tsp
Sugar - 2 tsp
For tempering
Bay leaf - 2
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard oil - 3-4 tbsp
Ghee - 2 tbs


1. Heat oil in a pan and add the seasoning ingredients, followed by the potatoes and sauté for a few minutes.
2. Add potatoes; fry them at high for sometimes.
3. Add turmeric powder, red pepper powder, coriander, cumin powder followed by salt and sugar.
4. Saute the above for a few minutes over high flame, before adding the chopped banana blossom and the shrimp.
5. Saute for a few minutes and add all cloves, cardamom, cinnamon.
6. Slightly sprinkle some water with hands.
7. Cook, keeping it covered over low heat till the potatoes and shrimp are cooked.
8. Gently mash the entire gravy and mix in well.
9. Add ghee over the top and serve
