Mourala Maacher Tok

Mourala Maacher Tok

Serves 4 people.

400 gm mourola fishes
2 medium sized sweet potatoes (cut in small cubes)
1 cup of tamarind extract
1 tsp black mustard seeds
1 tsp of turmeric powder
4-5 dry red chillies (deseeded)
Salt to taste
Sugar as per your sweet craving
White oil for cooking

1. Mix in salt and sugar with tamarind extract.
2. Rub salt and turmeric powder on the fishes and fry them crisp. Take the fishes off the heat and keep aside.
3. Into the same oil, add black mustard seeds and dry red chillies. Allow them to crackle.
4. Add the potato cubes and about 2-3 cups of water. (You don't need to fry the potatoes.)
5. When potatoes turn tender, add the tamarind extract and let the gravy simmer for couple of minutes. (You ought to be careful about the sugar. The dish will not be as sweet as a sweet dish that it overlaps the tangy taste of the tamarind. The sweetness should hit your palate with tanginess remaining intact.)
6. Toss in the fishes and cook covered for 1 minute. Turn the heat off.
7. Serve when it comes down to room temperature.
